File#012: Gingko Tree

　　

　　1945年の東京大空襲で燃えたが、生き残った飛木稲荷神社にある銀杏の木。神木として祀らわれている。その時に焦げた跡が、現在でも生々しく幹に露出している。銀杏はもともと水分を多く含んでおり比較的、耐火性が強い木である。(墨田区　2013.09.22撮影)

　　

　Ginkgo tree, which was burnt heavily by the 1945's March 10 Tokyo Air Raid, but survived at Tobikiinari Shrine. The tree has been enshrined as a symbolic guardian diety. The burnt traces of charcoal are still exposed and visible on the trunk.  The ginkgo tree itself is relatively fire-resistant because it contains much water inside.
